Walking in memory of Saskia

Ella and Paul Barrow lost their 16 year old daughter Saskia late last year, following a long brave battle with illness throughout her life.

For many years Saskia and her family were supported at home in Aylesbury by the Pepper paediatric nurses and Ella and Paul recognise and appreciate the support they have had over the years - "Saskia needed a lot of care and support and the Pepper nurses were fantastic at not just caring for Saskia but supporting all of us as a family too. They were an invaluable part of our lives (and still are!), providing assistance just when it's needed." As well as nursing and respite care, the team were also able to offer play therapy and support for sister Kaya.

In 2010 Saskia supported her Mum at the inaugural Sunrise Walk in Hemel Hempstead (see picture), and although she is no longer here to see it, Ella, Paul and Kaya and a group of supporters are going to walk again this year on October 16th, not only in Saskia's memory, but also to raise money for the Pepper nurses and raise awareness of the good work they do.

The Pepper Sunrise Walk starts at Cavendish School at 8am. It is open to all over 13, and has 5 and 10 mile options, nearly all off road around the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside. Experienced marshals will be there to guide everyone around.

Pepper are hoping to attract more than 200 walkers this year, and Ella encourages everyone to join in, not only for the children and the nurses, but for the fun and exercise too!
